Ultrasonic Flaw Detection (UTFD) is a non-destructive inspection method that utilizes high-frequency sound waves to measure physical properties and identify material flaws. Applications for UT inspection include both surface and subsurface flaw detection in solid materials and welds. Defects, such as laminations, cracks, incomplete fusion, inclusions, and voids can typically be detected. Generally, sound waves of high frequency are reflected from flaws and generate clear echo patterns which are then interpreted by qualified SNT-TC-1A personnel.
